sure no problem!
It was awesome! even despite the massive amount of rain the first night we got there (which washed out 2/3 of our tents) and the 2nd 'bout of rain on Thursday, It was well worth the tick's, sun burn, trench foot and welts. I'll go into a bit more detail now::
Sunday evening, we arrive on site, meet our crew and get our gear un-packed. one of our guys loaned us their lawn mower, so we got the grass cut on our camp site which made it alot more comfortable. we go up to the diner, eat dinner, come back and at this time its time to hit the sack. Sometime later that night it started raining. no big deal, our tents had rain-flys and were on tarps... not always a good thing. a few hours into the rain i hear my friends in the next tent over start to run around the camp like chicken with their heads cut off. it turns out their tent got flooded as well as my dad's. so they were getting all their gear (from the tents) and getting it back into the car. Genius Reaves that he is, tripped on one of my stakes and popped it loose and rain started coming in. after awhile i fell asleep again.
Monday morning. I wake up to a tent thats half submerged. the only reason i wasn't wet was because I was wearing my Kevlar vest for warmth (in Oklahoma in June, go figure) and i had my sleeping bag under me. unfortunately half my clothes was in a little red bag, acting as my pillow, which got completely soaked. so half my clothes, all my socks and boxers were now soaking wet. oh joy. so anyways, i get up put my MARPAT BDU's on (one of the only clean and dry pieces of clothes I have) and venture out of my tent only to find... it's still raining... the rest of Monday was spent waking up, getting warm, drying off boots and socks.
Tuesday Morning. Most stuff is dry and the CO of our unit (1058th M.E.K. Marines) comes in today.. after he spends the night in a nice, warm, not wet hotel in Neosho. he starts saying stuff along these lines "how do you not get shot? don't be where the bullets are! but see, what we're gonna do is get in a big V formation, and charge headlong at the enemy! after we all die in an un-sucessful charge, we'll go to the dead box and wait 30 till the next re-spawn then try it again!" well, that really didn't fly with me. nor did it with a few other guys. so me and about 13 other guys basically separated from the M.E.K. and became the 1058th and a half MECH. later that day we did the physical test just to shut them up. (everyone passed) the rest of the day went to meandering around the vendor area.
Wednesday. New York, Headshot, Cardboard, and Myself went to train with the 21st Panzer division and the 352nd Panzerjagers (tank hunters) The 352nd were going to dig into Colleville and assault the tanks as they circled around. our OBJ was to escort the tanks thru Colleville without being killed and on a different run we'd help the 352nd kill the tanks. It was awesome. we started out escorting the tanks. Which was a real treat, seeing as the most tanks we've had at PBK at one time was.. 1. we had 3 on this exercise. We were in a column formation basically springing the infantry's traps. our job for this was to take out the AT guns while the tanks were taking out the infantry. we made it all the way around Colleville with 4 casualties and 1 dead tank. after that we switched to aiding the 352nd. during this run we bunkered down at the last part, were the tanks were the most vulnerable (the rear was totally exposed) and we were just waiting there with some AT guys. and when the tanks rolled around we took 2 out of 3 of them out. (apparently 1 had been taken down earlier.) And on the last run of the exercise me, cardboard, and like 3 other supporting infantry and 3 AT gunners ran up to the Church (a HUGE 2 story building with a perfect view of Colleville.) and we just waited there for the tanks to roll around. as soon as they came into range, me, cardboard and the other supporting infantry started unloading on the Tank's escorts. as soon as they were out of the way, the AT guys got in there and took out 2 of the tanks. After the end of that training session, we headed back up into town (the whole area of the vendors, the Cafe, and shops) on our way back, the rest of our unit was just coming onto the field to do some "dry fire" runs in tactical formation. Not really sure what they did. but we didn't miss much. personally We had more fun training with the tanks than they did shooting air at trees. When we finally got off the field, we got cleaned up in the sulfur showers and went into town to get a bite to eat (on New York =D) the rest of that day was sitting around the camp site BS each other with stories and such with gunfire from the SUTAL course echoed in the background.
Thursday. this was just another day. not much going on in the day. but in the early evening, there was alot of activity on site. well, today was the day.. er night of the Night game. held in Colleville. So we all went up to the Chrono station to get Chrono'd down and all and was getting ready for tonight. we had everything prepared and assignments handed to us and prepped for the game. at sundown we all headed out to the field and get to our stations. I was placed on the North side of the entrenchments, facing the Church as were Cardboard, Patches, and Headshot. we waited there for the signal (a artillery shell going off) what seemed like hours going by as we stared into the dark windows of the Allied held Church watching figures dart back and forth from window to window. suddenly we heard the BANG of the artillery shell and the field erupting with fire. we hunkered down and started firing back. after awhile i started lining people up to start running up to bunkers at closer points to the church to get a better vantage point. we waited till there was a dull in the shooting from the Allies then I yelled "COVERING FIRE!!" and almost every German on our line started pouring paint into the Church and the surrounding area where the allies were. At that time i sent the first wave of 4-5 speed ballers up to the next set and they started taking out all the allies that had managed to run up against our right flank. I tried setting up another wave, but all everyone was too scared to make the next run. So I told Cardboard to take over the North line while I checked the East line. I ran over there and asked a Lt what was going on. apparently the 1st ID, the 4th ID and some elements of the 82nd were shooting out from the woods. At this time I ran back to my position, grabbed Cardboard and ran to German command (which is next to a Giant flood light where the commanders were directing the flow of people. I gave him a SITRAP and asked if I could take me and a small squad into the Forest on the South side and run up against the allies left flank, pose as one of them, and barrel tag their CO then just open up on them. he granted me permission and all i had to do now was get some people together and get over there. So I went near a bunker and started recruiting people. no sooner than i start i notice some of the guys im next to are rocking blue hopper covers and blue wrist bands, I hold them at gun point and ask them what they're doing here. apparently they didn't like the allied side and wanted to play German, so the got a transfer to the Germans, but never got the Red hopper cover. at this point i really didn't have time to ask Questions. I just brought them to the South line, told the occupying unit that were going in and went in. It took like 45 minutes of sneaky stop and go movement to get where we needed to be but we finally got there. we never got to pose as one of them, but we engaged them in a secondary battle. after about 5 minutes of fighting i got hit and walked off the field and into the reinsertion point. while there, i find Patches, Kelly, Tatertot, and I think Neles. we got cleaned off, loaded up, and made a plan. when we were re-inserted, we headed back in that general area, but not in the woods so much. we stacked up next to the tincan (a big bunker made of tin with holes cut into it) and moved to towards the wood line where we knew the enemy was. there were a bunch of concrete bunkers laying on the edge and thought we saw someone moving in there, so we moved in, guns raised and stocked, and were ready to light anything up. My heart was pumping a mile a minute thinking that an allied player would pop up and hose us all down. when we got to the bunker, we cleared it and made sure there were no allies in it. i started to relax a bit. and then got shot in the side of the head. we all got lit up from behind... by our own guys...
with only 15 minutes left to the night game and reinsertion every 30 minutes, we decided to just head back up into camp, get showered, and relax. we get to camp, take our gear off, go shower (i find 4 ticks on me) and come back to camp. when we get back we find out that we had won, so in celebration we all had a drink and listened to NewYork's stories of his USMC career.
Friday: well, it had rained in the early morning and so everytning was pretty wet again. oh joy. so we just went up into town and attacked the vendors. there was 1 vendor that was showing a gernade style pneumatic paintball gun that shot something like 12 rounds of .68 cal paint. that was frickin awesome!! Spec Ops had JUST released the T8 17 rd pistol mag, BT had JUST released the TM7 and we got to test fire it, Engler Customs were there with their MG42, browning .30 cal, and misc other custom PB guns. I broke my watch which really pissed me off, and chilled for most of the day. other than that, we got our gear loaded up, and chrono'd for the next day. (I slept in the car with my full BDU's on with my Marker on my lap =D )
Saturday: The big game, D-day... D-day. woke up at 0600, grabbed my marker, got outta the car, put my knee pads (you NEED them out there. the terrain is murder if you crouch) on and donned my Vest. stretched a bit, woke the rest of the guys up and made my way to CP. we were scheduled to hit the field at about 0730 or so. so, while everyone woke up, i went into town to get some good grub to eat, and packed a power bar in my vest to munch on later. seeing as there's no lunch break. got back and most people had woken up by then. only a few left sleeping (cardboard and brick.) so kelly's crew decide "hey! they need to be up! let's wake em up!" so we go to the German command's bunker and borrow their megaphone. open the doors to the van and we all yell "WAKE UP" as loud as we can. they woke up
so now that everyone is up, we do a radio check and make sure all our gear works as it's supposed to. we get our assignments (me, cardboard, and brick are apart of Echo company while Kelly, nele's, tater-tot and a few others are in Delta company (this is atleast with the MEK)) so it's 0700 and noone can stand it anymore, we head out to the field. our AT gun rolls onto Utah, while the rest of the MEK goes to the South end of Ste Mere Eglise. about 30 minutes before game one, we see about 27 french troops movin up a ridge on our right flank (there not supposed to be there) so a German unit moves up in there to kick em out and back to ste. mere.. Echo's CO (dunno his name, but he was an arse hole) told me and cardboard to climb the ridge to our immediate left and scout out all enemy positions. (me and cardboard do rock climbing on occasion so were fine with it.) we get up there and survey the land; it's like a giant crossroads, with a river running thru it. we're on the west side, and the river runs N to S. Ste. Mere is along the N road. up at the top part of the valley (high above us) is the 91st luftlande division. which controls the airfield. now as me and cardboard are sitting up on this ridge... we notice a squad of french troops N of our position. within shooting range. without them noticing us or that we're even there, we move into a defensive position and raise our guns to them. now note, it's not game on yet, but this could go really bad really quick so we were just sitting there for what feels like hours. finnaly we get the signal for game on. everything just explodes! me an cardboard open up on the enemy's and take 2-3 of them out immediately. and then start reciving fire from deeper in the bushes. i glance down and see orange smokes being tossed and the entire MEK running head into Ste. Mere, with Kelly and Delta co in the lead. from the AAR's he was the first person to make a kill, throw the first smoke and to get killed. kudo's to you, Kelly. so anyways, were taking fire from these guys. we cant hit them cuz of the brush, but they're able to shoot at us. 1 gernade would've taken them all out. but unfortunately, we didn't get any before hand. so after awhile of constant firefighting, both me and cardboard get taken out and head for the rally point DZ. we get there and find Kelly. get prepped for re-insertion and when time hits the 30 min mark, we cant leave cuz were not at the designated exit. but at the entrance. so we're there for another 30 min. it's ok i guess, so we just chill and get a strategy ready. the next 30 min mark hits and we get sent out the correct way this time. now we have a few more people (Kelly, me, cardboard, long, Curley, patches ad headshot.) we start our walk to the infamous Utah beach, walking in a dual column formation. we make it there without any enemy contact, and find the epic fighting of Utah beach, we see dead tanks, and HUNDREDS of players. we get towards the DZ and find more of Kelly's crew. so we rally them and go aid the beach defenders an help score the points for the first scoring of Utah beach. I quickly find myself in a trench and laying down paint at some 4th ID guys running up the beach. the flag is still flying red at this time, so we all think that we're gonna get the points. so here comes along some allied idiot and kicks down the flag pole and shimmies the blue flag with multiple hits on him. so the entire game at utah is stopped so we can figure out WTF is going on. it's quiet too quiet. allies and Germans are popping up from their trenches to see whats going on. they look like gophers. i take this chance to get a more sturdy position in a different trench. so.. after like 20 minutes the allies get the points, and i get up and walk off towards the DZ where i find some of Kelly's crew. we rally up and head down to the valley. now were starting at the farthest point North you can get. but before we can get there, a squad of 82nd pathfinders comes up from behind and lites us all up. so before we reinsert (the DZ is right there) we watch as our guys pound the scheitz outta the 82nd guys who just ambushed us. we reinsert (reinsertion is quicker at beach DZ's) and head down into the valley. we make it just inside the tree line and get into a massive fire fight with some 82nd, french, and 4th ID. we hunker down and start fighting. me, headshot, patches are sitting at this one bunker. just a few meters infront of me, i see someone poke their head up from an elevated bunker, i shoot 3-4 rounds and they duck down real quick. again they pop up and i fire, the duck down this time. i tell headshot about em, and the next time he poped his head up, we both sent 10-12 round each at him, him and the guy next to him quickly got out. so headshot, and some guy i was standing beside started crawling up to the enemy's bunker. i give them cover fire while they advance. once they get far enough forwards, i run up to a closer position right next to a river (the same river from before) im hiding behind a tree and bush, and start shooting a little pillbox bunker across the river and downrange some. unfortunately for me, they saw where i was shooting from and opened up on me with what seemed like automatic fire. i got hit somewhere. so i walk off to a dead box down the valley some and as soon as i get there, they just reinserted. so I go back to where we were fighting, only this time on the right side of the road, i find zipper and fight alongside him. we were in a quite stable fighting position when cookie find his way back to our position. some how the enemy is pushing us back, so close that as soon as i finish loading my hopper, 2 allied guys pop up on on the ridge (not allowed) and light both me and zipper up. he goes off on them and was about to kill them for over shooting, being where they're not supposed to and having their velocity cranked up. anyways, i get him to come with back to the DZ in the valley and we just sit there shootin the scheitz and talkin about them little F'er's over shooting and all. after that we get reinserted and move back down to where we were. we get note that we've been pushed back, so we get to Ste. Mere Eglise and hold there, we find Vanguy and cookie and hunker down on the left flank behind some good cover and wait for the allies to come. after about 5 minutes, we see them we all hold our fire untill they're in the woods and quite stuck, and everyone in the village opens up. in about 30 minutes points will be scored for Ste. Mere so it's pretty much do or die. we unload hoppers of paint into the allies as they push forwards. well, cookie being cookie, he decides to charge up and push them back. he runs all the way to a tree and bunker on the outskirts of the village and starts mowing the allies down. 10 minutes till the points scoring and they retreat. we expect a massive surge, so we all load up our hoppers and ready our self's. 5minutes, 3 minutes, 1 minutes, 30 seconds, time. noone came. we were all dumbfounded. so we go up retrieve our cookie, congratulate him on his move and head back into Ste. Mere where the CO of that group and a ref were talking. from the South, comes NewYork. he brought paint! we load up our hoppers, pods and everything else and get ready. the CO and Newyork decide to have the remaining defenders of that village fall back near the dead zone, while Newyork baits them into a trap. well, im not gonna let my Comrade go alone, so I join him. we walk up the trail over a big river crossing, and decide "hey, let's piss em off!" so we walk a little further up and run into a MASSIVE number of allied troops. i'd figure 2-300. we shoot off a few rounds into their ranks, and THAT gets em goin. the first row starts opening up on us, so we haul arse back to Ste. Mere (which is a ghost town now) and we get into a defensive formation. i was gonna get as far left as i could, into a creek, and just wait for them to pass then come from behind and unload on em. but then i remember i have a 50 rd tac cap, so that would be difficult... so me and him just wait in the town center. we see them coming closer and shoot off a few more rounds at them. the duck and hold their position. we casually walk back towards the DZ some they come closer and we take another few shots at them. we get back to the ambush point, and get into a good defensive position. im, up along the left ridge. we have guys all around the area in pretty good cover. so we just wait there, and in no time at all, I see this huge mass of allies moving towards us. some scouts upfront... well, they get close. real close. and then we ALL just open up. about 16-20 gun just going off on this giant mass, now they can't move much.. so they're stuck there taking all this fire while we thin out the ranks. well, they start to push up some, and before we know it we're overwhelmed. I eventually get shot as one of the last defenders (really sucks getting shot at from 3 different angles) So I go to the DZ right there. get inside and watch the allies just running past.after about 15 minutes, we get escorted by a referee to our lines (going thru the allies) and we're looking around at all these guys. we see 4th ID, 82nd Abn, French, and a few others. but man, that was chaos. they started yelling, dead men walking! and stuff like that. (i really don't feel like typing my response's. but they shutup pretty quick) so we finally get over this little bridge and into the next village. I get there, and jump into the action. get right up into the front lines. find a guy that was shouting ramblings at me, and pick him off (head shot :-) ) anyways, we start thinning out their ranks. bad for us tho, our ranks start thinning out as well to where only me, and 2 other guys were right there up at the flag. we hold them off for a good amount of time till points are taken (German points) and I retreat, meet up with Newyork, Vanguy, and Otherguy. and to get to another Obj, we start climbing a really steep hill. after a minute or 2 we get to the top. can't really get a good shot on the allies, so we just sit there and catch our breath. after that, we head up a little bit more and come to a split in the trail. Vanguy and Otheguy go left and head to Colleville, while me and Newyork go right, over a bridge and almost get lit up by some Geisterjagers on the other side. we talk to them, give them a SITRAP and head off to the airfield. we walk towards the DZ to fill up our CamelBak's and see zipper and like.. 1/2 of Kelly's hero's sitting there chilling out in the DZ. so we go in, and cool down with them for awhile. It's 1330 now, hot, humid, everyone's sweaty, and now that i sat down, i don't wanna get up. so we basically go in for the day. So I get up, go under the netting, and let the other come thru as well, and hop onto the Deuce an a half that heads up into camp. we finally get back up there and walk back to camp, unload our gear, check each other for ticks and head up into town for some food at the D-day Cafe. the rest of the day is spent loafing an greeting the guys coming in. getting updates on occasion. at the end of the day, a Valkarie (all Female German unit) comes by our campsite and tells us that the parade (originally scheduled for Friday) was in 15 minutes, we didn't want to get geared up just to strut our stuff for the crowd, so we just walked up and raided the vendors again. after awhile we headed back and started tearing don our campsite. got EVERYTHING packed up, and hung out around the campfire for one last night of stories. i fell asleep after a few minutes... woke up then got in the car and went to sleep.
Sunday: we woke up, went to the Cafe, ate breakfast and came back. we all started saying good bye to each other exchanging info and all that. and left the field. we all had left withing an hr or so. glad we did. a tornado hit the field like 2hrs after we left.
So with all that, I can say with ease that, given the chance, i'd go to Oklahoma d-day again in a heartbeat. (doubt i will this next summer due to boot camp.) but I made a bunch of life long friends, and lots of awesome memories.
I'm #10
